History

The history of Lloret dates back to the third century BC, through which it managed to preserve its culture and tradition.

The name Lloret appeared in written form for the first time in 966 AD as Lo-redo. This name is said to be attributed to the Latin lauretum which means a place of laurels.

In the middle of the eighteenth century, there was a great upsurge in naval work in the town as well as the flourishing of the merchant marine. During this time, Lloretencs took part in the trading and investment of ships.

Because of this, there was a boom in the tourism industry which was later curtailed by the Civil War. At a much later date, 1950s, Lloret's way of life as a town, was based on the tourist economy. This led to a modernization of the urban area, complete with hotel service facilities and new suburbs.

Today, Lloret has ample choice of hotels, shops, sports facilities and leisure facilities. It is a town which is a melting pot of classic and modern, traditions and cosmopolitan vision.
